For more than 34 years Harris has honed her leadership skills in public service. In 1990 Harris was hired by the Alameda (CA) District Attorneys office then became the San Francisco Assistant District Attorney. She was elected District Attorney in 2003. In 2010 she was elected California Attorney General. Her exemplary career prosecuting the most difficult cases continued for 20 years. She was elected to the US Senate in 2016. Her vigorous work as a Senator focused on justice issues, corruption, environmental challenges, and the national judicial system. In 2020 she was elected as Vice-President of the United States, beginning her most important years of service. She worked extensively on passing the American Rescue Plan, the Infrastructure bill, the Inflation Reduction Bill, and the Safer Community gun bill. She led efforts to decrease illegal immigration from Central America. She was at the forefront of improving international support for Ukraine and improving alliances with nations in the Pacific. She fought to reduce student loan indebtedness. Knowing her skills of leadership in public service, the leaders of many nations have supported her bid for President.
The Republican nominees are woefully short on public service. Trump served four years and Vance has only 18 months of Senate experience. In his brief Senate career, Vance has not sponsored a single bill that became law. Trump’s tenure failed to deal with the Covid pandemic, weakened military alliances, saw unemployment skyrocket, stymied realistic pollution control, and fostered a spirit of corruption that has seen dozens of administrative and business leaders convicted. Presidential historians and academics ranked Trump as the worst President in American history.
Proverbs 22:29 commends a person with experience in doing good work, “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings…” Kamala Harris has the experience to lead the nation and the world toward a society where all people thrive.
